cha winter 2012 | petaloo

The owners of Petaloo actually contacted me prior to the start of CHA Winter 2012 and invited me to drop by for a tour of the booth. I love it when companies contact me and ask if I'll come by- often I feel like I'm in the way of sales and customers when I'm in a booth taking photos, and it's so nice to know that I'm actually welcome! Not only are Jeff and Cheryl some of the nicest people you could hope to meet, but they also have a great company that not only produces beautiful products but also employs women overseas who might have otherwise found...well, let's just say more hazardous careers. I love it when a business provides value to consumers and does something good for the world at the same time.

Petaloo produces several lines of gorgeous paper and fabric flowers along with a few other embellishment lines that we'll take a look at a little later in this post. I'll start right off the bat with a few gorgeous projects that were scattered around the booth, including these tags from the make and take table.

Petaloo's business model is slightly different than that of other companies producing similar types of embellishments. Instead of producing their own paper lines with flowers to match, Petaloo studies upcoming color trends and new scrapbooking releases and produces their flowers to coordinate with the top 20 collections in the industry. That means that you can pick up virtually any paper on the show floor and find Petaloo flowers to match, though they also had paper samples hanging right in their booth to help customers find flowers easily.

Spring Darjeeling is Petaloo's biggest new collection of the season, featuring 7 new color lines each containing a variety of coordinating flowers, butterflies, and decorative pins.

For example, the board below shows the Spring Darjeeling Seaside collection, featuring aquas and whites.

Aren't these decorative pins simply gorgeous?!?

Spring Darjeeling Red Raspberry has springy pinks and hints of red covered, while the Cottage Blue collection takes care of spring hues of blue and green.

Lighter pinks and hints of purple abound in Spring Darjeeling Hyacinth, and you'll find lighter greens and browns in the Pistachio line.

The best part? All of these items are in the affordable $2.99 - $4.99 MSRP range.

Flora Doodles are Petaloo's value line. These fabric flowers (and butterflies, too!) are less elaborate than other embellishments in the Petaloo family, but also sell at a slightly lower price-point ($2.99 - $3.99 MSRP) targeted to value-minded consumers.

The Color Me Crazy collection is designed for crafters who want to ink, mist, and paint their own colored flowers on a project by project basis. This collection features a variety of white embellishments in both fabric and paper mediums that are ready and waiting to be modified to suit your needs!

Let's step away from Petaloo's gorgeous flowers now and take a look at some of their other embellishments.

These laser-cut pieces are advertised as "chipboard," but really they're much heavier and sturdier than that- almost on the order or a soft wood, but they still take inks, paints, and mists well.

Vintage Dazzlers are ATC-sized reproductions of real vintage cards, and each piece features die cut and raised layers.

These are so pretty when used as-is on a card!
